Why I Don’t Use Wheat, Rice or Fillers in My Treats

When I first started making treats for Loki, I wasn’t trying to build a business, I was trying to help a dog with a stomach that reacted to almost everything. Every packet I picked up looked promising until I turned it over and saw the same thing: wheat, rice, maize, pea flour, potato starch, “natural flavourings”. It was no wonder his tummy never settled.

Over time, I realised something simple but important: sensitive dogs don’t need fillers. They need clarity and simplicity.

Fillers Make Sensitive Stomachs Work Harder

Wheat, rice, and other fillers are often snuck into dog treats to bulk them up without breaking the bank. But for pups with sensitive tummies, these fillers can be a bit of a troublemaker! They can lead to bloating, discomfort, and even messy bathroom trips. Loki, had a tough time with pretty much all fillers, even those that claimed to be “gentle” or “sensitive.” This experience is a wake-up call for pet owners who might not realise how these sneaky ingredients can affect their furry friends. Once we ditched the fillers and focused on high-quality, whole foods, Loki’s digestive woes vanished! It showed me how important it is to choose quality treats and food for our pets, ensuring they get the nutrition they deserve, minus the filler fuss!

Dogs Thrive on Single Proteins

A dog’s digestive system is designed to break down meat first, not grains. When you remove fillers, you let the protein do the work. Digestion becomes easier, reactions become fewer, and you finally get a clear picture of what your dog can truly tolerate.

That clarity is important. Many owners think their dog reacts to chicken or beef, but often it’s the fillers mixed in. When you remove wheat, rice and starches, you can finally see what your dog genuinely copes with, just like I discovered with Loki.

Natural, Functional Ingredients Work Better

I prioritise high-quality ingredients that enhance digestion. Coconut flour, grain-free and gluten-free, is rich in dietary fiber, promoting healthy bowel movements and providing a satisfying texture in baked goods. I also include various fruits and vegetables known for their digestive benefits, like Butternut Squash, rich in vitamins to soothe the digestive tract, Beetroot, which is Antioxidant-rich, and Apples, that is high in pectin, that regulate digestion.

Along with these ingredients, I include herbs like ginger, known for its digestive benefits. Every ingredient I use has a purpose, with nothing being added just for the sake of it. This careful selection makes my recipes not only tasty but also nourishing, giving the body what it needs to thrive. By focusing on these healthy ingredients, I aim to create treats that support digestion and overall well-being, that support your dog whilst giving them a well-deserved treat.

Sensitive Dogs Deserve Treats They Can Enjoy

Dogs with tummy issues often miss out on the joys of life, leaving their owners worried about introducing new treats or foods. This can turn treat time, meant for bonding, into a source of anxiety, as owners fear digestive upset or allergic reactions.

My goal is simple yet impactful: to create treats that make sensitive dogs feel included and cherished. Every dog deserves to enjoy treats, regardless of dietary restrictions, and I believe they should have access to snacks that are both delicious and health-promoting.

These tasty treats are beneficial even for those without sensitive stomachs or allergies, as they are rich in protein and contain ingredients that aid in various aspects such as skin, coat, and anxiety. Additionally, many of these treats are low in fat and hypoallergenic.
