Creating Healthy Dog Treats for Sensitive Stomachs: My Journey with Loki

When I first brought Loki home, I imagined the usual things, long walks, cuddles, and the joy of spoiling him with treats whilst training or just for being good. What I didn’t expect was how difficult it would be to find treats he could actually enjoy without becoming unwell. Loki has always been a sensitive boy. Every time I tried a new treat, something went wrong, upset stomach, itching, discomfort, smelly or simply refusing to eat because he knew it would make him feel bad later. Even the treats labelled “natural” didn’t sit right with him.
At first, I thought I was just being unlucky with brands. But the more I tried, the more I realised something wasn’t adding up.

Why Most Dog Treats Don’t Work for Sensitive Dogs
Like most dog owners, I trusted the packaging. Words like natural, healthy, grain‑free, single‑protein — they all sounded reassuring. But Loki’s reactions told a very different story.
So I started researching and what I found genuinely shocked me.
Many “natural” chews and treats weren’t as safe as they appeared. Some were heavily processed. Some contained hidden ingredients that didn’t have to be clearly listed.
And some, despite being marketed as natural, could actually be dangerous. One chew in particular, moon bones, was a real eye‑opener. I discovered they can splinter into sharp pieces, especially when dogs don’t chew properly.
And that’s when everything clicked.
Loki doesn’t chew.
He inhales.
He’s the kind of dog who thinks every treat is a race. So giving him anything that could splinter was a risk I wasn’t willing to take. The only chews he can safely manage are chicken feet and rabbit ears. Everything else was either too risky, too processed, or too harsh for his stomach.
That’s when I realised something had to change.
Why I Wanted to Make a Difference
I didn’t want Loki to miss out on treats. I didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable. And I didn’t want to keep guessing what was actually inside the things I was giving him.
I wanted treats that were:
gentle
natural
easy to digest
safe for dogs who inhale rather than chew
and genuinely supportive of their wellbeing
Not just a single protein. Not just “grain‑free.” Not just “natural.”
I wanted treats with a purpose.
The Importance of Variety (and Why Most Treats Don’t Offer It)
Another thing I learned during my research was how many treats rely on the same proteins over and over again — chicken, beef, chicken, beef. Dogs with sensitivities often benefit from rotating proteins to avoid developing new allergies or intolerances.
Did you know that the most common allergen in Dogs is Chicken?

I wanted Loki to have:
multiple protein options
gentle, digestible ingredients
treats that supported his health, not just filled a gap
So I began experimenting with different meats, lean proteins, heart meats, fish, paired with simple, natural ingredients that wouldn’t overwhelm his stomach.
How I Developed Treats That Serve a Purpose
I didn’t just want to make treats Loki could tolerate. I wanted to make treats that actually helped him. So I focused on creating recipes that:
supported digestion
soothed sensitive stomachs
offered natural calming benefits
supported joints, immunity, and skin health
used herbs with real, gentle benefits
I researched dog nutrition, studied ingredients, and tested small batches. Loki was always the first taste‑tester and Parker soon joined him, offering very enthusiastic feedback.
Slowly, the formula came together:
Just four ingredients.
Nothing unnecessary.
Nothing hidden.
And for the first time, Loki could enjoy treats without discomfort.
Seeing the Difference in Loki’s Health and Happiness
Since switching to these simple, purpose‑led treats, Loki’s digestive issues have improved dramatically. He enjoys a variety of flavours and textures, and I finally feel confident knowing exactly what he’s eating and why it’s good for him.

This journey taught me something important: every dog is different, and all dogs need treats made with intention, not just convenience even if they dont have a sensitive tummy.
What started as a mission to help Loki has grown into Greedy Parker, a small‑batch treat brand inspired by my two boys and created for dogs who deserve better. Because no dog should have to suffer for a treat and no owner should have to guess what’s really inside.
